Health News Update: Simple diet shift to eat smarter without deprivation 7.13.26
Hello everyone: As you know, an anti-inflammatory food plan has many benefits, including disease management, weight loss, increasing health and lifespan, and improving overall health trajectory by reducing inflammaging. Perhaps is seems overwhelming or just difficult, and yet it does not have to be that way. Check out this article:
“People who switch to a fully unprocessed diet don’t just eat differently—they eat smarter. Research from the University of Bristol shows that when people avoid ultra-processed foods, they naturally pile their plates with fruits and vegetables, eating over 50% more food by weight while still consuming hundreds fewer calories each day. This happens because whole foods trigger a kind of built-in “nutritional intelligence,” nudging people toward nutrient-rich, lower-calorie options.
A study led by researchers at the University of Bristol, with contributions from leading US nutrition experts, found that participants who ate only unprocessed foods consumed more than 50 percent more food by weight than those eating only UPFs (ultra-processed food). Even so, their daily calorie intake was about 330 calories lower on average.
Published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the findings offer new insight into how people make food decisions. The results support the idea that humans may possess a built-in "nutritional intelligence" that helps guide balanced eating. This instinct appears to function best when foods are eaten in their natural form and may be disrupted by modern fast-food environments.”

Bottom Line: This part of the article sums it up:
“Lead author Jeff Brunstrom, Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Bristol, said: "It's exciting to see when people are offered unprocessed options, they intuitively select foods that balance enjoyment, nutrition, and a sense of fullness, while still reducing overall energy intake. Our dietary choices aren't random -- in fact we seem to make much smarter decisions than previously assumed, when foods are presented in their natural state."
The way to do that is to start ‘crowding out’ the processed stuff by simply purchasing more and more unprocessed, plant based whole foods. Food quality makes an enormous difference and the more diverse the rainbow of colors you choose… the better, as the rainbow contains the nutrients that foster an anti-inflammatory and immune resilient biochemistry. It is these type of food choices that promote a longer health span and lifespan. Be consistent, keep it simple, research recipes, vary your food choices, have fun and be well!!
Why is this critically important? Because, and as I have said before, I have never seen an optimal resolution of any chronic health condition (including inflammaging) without a whole foods, anti-inflammatory and predominantly plant based food plan as the foundation of any health building program.
