Food: Killer and Healer

Hey there everyone:

If you have been reading any of my blog posts, you will recall that inflammation is the cause, aggravating or perpetuating factor of virtually every health issue. So, by now you get the fact that inflammation is something you want to reduce, and you should be aware that what we eat can either be a source of inflammation and illness or a source of our recovery and a huge part of prevention. Just do a search on inflammatory foods if you need any convincing.

“Diets rich in fruits and vegetables (FV), which contain (poly)phenols, protect against age-related inflammation and chronic diseases.” And “These results suggest that (poly)phenols derived from onions, turmeric, red grapes, green tea and açai berries may help reduce the release of pro-inflammatory mediators in people at risk of chronic inflammation.”

While lots of things promote inflammation, food is the one that we have the most control over and the one that causes the most problems.

Without a clean, anti-inflammatory food plan, no amount of supplements will overcome the inflammation and disease producing effects of eating poorly. We all must simply eat the most nutrient dense, clean and nutritious food possible if we want to overcome a health condition and then maintain and improve our health and functional abilities.

How does a modified elimination food plan work? You simply avoid eating the most inflammatory, reactive, allergenic foods for a period of 30 to 120 days (I prefer at least 90 days), then go through a slow and steady re-introduction of the eliminated foods to see if you react to them. The ones you react to, you leave out, the ones you don’t react to you can add back in. Simple, effective, better than food allergy blood tests most of the time, inexpensive and it works. Invest in yourself by devoting some time to learn to eat super foods, learn to cook them, make them delicious and watch your chronic health conditions subside. There is NO OTHER WAY because it is simply and fundamentally how we are made by our Creator. Food can either be our medicine or our poison, it is now your choice which path to choose.
